A Dog’s Breakfast is a weekly cartoon in the classic single-panel format. Like its primary inspiration — Gary Larson’s “The Far Side” cartoons — ADB features a broad array of humans and animals. What binds it together, besides thick viscous bile, is a dark, musty sort of humor; they kind one normally treats with bleach.
ADB is where I explore things that make me laugh that might be too dark or confusing for my other work, which is often geared toward young readers. The title is a common British slang phrase, which was best defined by Mike Wine of the New York Times:
"A dog's breakfast is any kind of smorgasbord prepared, in haste or at random, from life's castoffs.”
As one of life’s castoffs myself, I like using ADB to celebrate the joy of being unmoored, even when we’re clearly headed towards the breakers.
